As you all surely know, today is Read Across America Day—the 108th birthday of Dr. Seuss. Reading is one of my passions and a topic I believe can be a vital part of the FACS curriculum. It was a little challenging to find a song that related to both the FACS curriculum and reading, but I think I’ve found one that works.
The song I’ve selected for today is Holding Out For a Hero by Ella Mae Bowen. Hope you can follow my reasoning on this one. Every novel or short story has a hero or heroine, right? So that’s the link to Read Across America. The lyrics to the song echo the expectations that young women have traditionally held regarding potential mates. Could stimulate some interesting discussion, don’t you think?
Have a great weekend!
