I love Pizza!

pizza

Friday night has long been my favorite night of the week.  Maybe that’s because on Friday night the weekend stretches before you with the promise of a break from work and getting up insanely early.

My preference for Friday night may also have something to do with our tradition of making a yummy deep dish pizza for dinner.  That practice is what lead me to choose today’s songs for the FACS Soundtrack.  I’ve chosen two songs both of which sing the praises of pizza.  Both of these songs are very safe and very dated.  You’ll find more current pizza songs on You Tube, but they lyrics and video images made me a little uncomfortable for recommendation for classroom use.  You’ve been forewarned, so judge for yourself.

Dean Martin sings the song and Jerry Lewis provides the comic relief in this movie clip. Classic!

In Napoli where love is king
When boy meets girl here’s what they say

When the moon hits you eye like a big pizza pie
That’s amore
When the world seems to shine like you’ve had too much wine
That’s amore
Bells will ring ting-a-ling-a-ling, ting-a-ling-a-ling
And you’ll sing "Vita bella"
Hearts will play tippy-tippy-tay, tippy-tippy-tay
Like a gay tarantella

When the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool
That’s amore
When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore
Scuzza me, but you see, back in old Napoli
That’s amore

Lucky fella

That’s amore
(When you dance down the street with a cloud at your feet
You’re in love
When you walk down in a dream but you know you’re not
Dreaming signore

That’s amore, (amore)
That’s amore

The lyrics to this song mention another classic Italian dish:  pasta fazool.  This traditional meatless dish is actually pasta fagioli, meaning “pasta and beans.”  The name of the dish is often pronounced pasta fazool here in the US.  Here’s an easy recipe for this savory and satisfying dish. http://allrecipes.com/recipe/easy-pasta-fagioli/

This is really an oldie!

I apologize for my absence from adding to the FACS Soundtrack this week.  It’s conference season and we’re very busy preparing presentations and workshops.  Hope to see you at one of the events where we’ll be participating.  Have a great weekend!
