cherry cobbler

Today is another delicious food holiday!  May 17th is National Cherry Cobbler Day!  Oh happy day!

Cherry Cobbler is one of my very favorite desserts, but it shouldn’t be confused with cherry pie (also super yummy!).  Webster’s New World Dictionary of Culinary Arts defines cobbler as a deep-dish fruit tart with a rich, sweet, biscuit-type dough covering the fruit.  That’s very different from the flaky pastry typical of pies and tarts.  I think it’s important that FACS teachers know the difference.

Anyway, today’s FACS Soundtrack selection celebrates this delicious dessert.  The song Life Is Just a Bowl of Cherries was first recorded in the 1930’s, so it was a little difficult to find a rendition of the song that wasn’t too dated.  I think the one I chose is amusing enough to work in the classroom.

Don’t know who is actually singing this song, but obviously it’s not this trio.

Life is just a bowl of cherries
Don’t take it serious,
Life’s too mysterious
You work,
You save,
You worry so
But you can’t take your dough
When you go, go, go

So keep repeating "It’s the berries."
The strongest oak must fall
The sweet things in life
To you were just loaned
So how can you lose
What you’ve never owned

Life is just a bowl of cherries
So live and laugh,
Laugh and love
Live and laugh at it all!

So keep repeating "It’s the berries."
The strongest oak must fall
The sweet things in life
To you were just loaned
So how can you lose
What you’ve never owned

Life is just a bowl of cherries
So live and laugh, aha!
Laugh and love
Live and laugh,
Laugh and love,
Live and laugh at it all
